Abstract
Music critics and historians use the name École de Paris in reference to two different realities: either a group of composers based in Paris in the period between the two world wars or the artists and composers of any age who lived at least part of their lives in the French capital. Federico Lazzaro's work is the first to explore the origin and use of the concept of École de Paris in music. The author explores the history and issues surrounding this versatile expression by shedding new light on the tension between identity-related nationalism and cosmopolitanism in the City of Lights in the inter-war period. Lazzaro provides musicologists and music-lovers with critical and in-depth insights into the phenomenon.
