Award-winning publication: A new look at the coping strategies used by the partners of pathological gamblers
Published in: Journal of Gambling Issues
Abstract
The partners of pathological gamblers are impacted by the negative consequences of their spouses' problematic gaming habits, and it has been proven that they develop coping strategies to deal with these behaviours. However, science is just beginning to explore the subject. The research conducted by Mélissa Côté defines some 30 such strategies and describes the contexts in which they are used, how they vary over time, the vehicles and the aims, while exploring the spouses' individual points of view. The findings will help refine the therapeutic interventions used to support these couples.
