De l'amour et de l'audace brings French-Canadian women novelists of the 1930s and their writing practices in the public and private spheres to the attention of a new audience. Building on the lives and works of Jovette-Alice Bernier, Éva Senécal and Michelle Le Normand and a rich collection of letters, diaries, fiction texts and book reviews, author Adrien Rannaud tells the story of the earliest age of novels by women—a defining moment in Québec literature in which women explore new esthetics and transform the literary institution. The research presented in the book calls for the reinterpretation of our times against the background of past works and leads to a reflection on literature's capacity to represent power relations between genders and even serve to change them.
