Observing that the health and media sectors often operate in isolation and interact very little, the Groupe de recherche Médias et santé (Research Group on Media and Health), directed by Lise Renaud from Université du Québec à Montréal, has taken on the task of creating a meeting space for media workers, health professionals and researchers with an interest in the two fields.
These partnerships can assume different forms, notably the identification of research questions, access to fields of enquiry, collaborative data analysis, information distribution and networking. They emphasize knowledge transfer and the dissemination of research results and practices, in particular through the co-development of internet tools.
On the research group's website, the Faits saillants section presents general-public summaries of health research results intended mainly for journalists. The blog C'est malade is designed for youth media professionals. Its objective is to stimulate critical reflection on youth, media and health, in the hope of influencing professional practice and, ultimately, improving the health of young people. Finally, the website Internet et santé is intended as a place for monitoring, communicating and sharing knowledge, designed for public health, university and media stakeholders interested in the impact of the internet on communications in the health sector.
By the way, the members of the research group do not limit themselves to the internet! Quarterly meetings are held for communicating research results to partners. The science and media watch is always on the lookout for information of interest in the health and information sectors. In addition, a compendium of the books, articles and research reports published by the members of the research group is available online.
