Award-winning publication: Transplant Trajectory and Relational Experience Within Living Kidney Dyads
Published in: Qualitative Health Research, February 2015
A rare look into the experiences of living kidney donation donor-recipient dyads, Deborah Ummel's project highlights the degree to which the type of relationship between a donor and recipient significantly impacts their experiences of living donation. Her results indicate that kidney donation and acceptance are facilitated when the actions are coherent with the individuals' social roles. Elucidating the importance of social roles and the broader interpersonal context provides a better understanding of the trajectory by which donors and recipients journey as well as a framework to better grasp the relational issues that may arise within pairs.
