Abstract

Familles LGBT : le guide provides information in plain language and is especially aimed at lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) parents and prospective parents. It addresses questions and concerns related to the issues that LGBT community members face on a daily basis, as well as those that arise when they choose to start a family, providing them with rare visibility. The guide is also meant for the general public and the professionals in various sectors who could engage with LGBT families (e.g. daycare centres and schools, fertility clinics, legal community). The chapters by Marie-Pier Petit significantly contribute to the development of knowledge on trans individuals - who have chiefly been studied from the medical and psychiatric angles - from the family studies perspective and in particular from the perspectives of gender theory and of the diversification of family configurations and the evolution of parental roles by sparking critical thinking on the presumptive alignment between sex, gender and parental role.
