Award-winning publication: Intervenir auprès de sectes religieuses en protection de la jeunesse - Un défi
Published in: Presses de l'Université du Québec, April 2015
The isolation of children living in a totalitarian environment such as a sect deprives them of their right to protection. An analysis of the social, police and judicial interventions carried out in such situations brought to light the challenges specific to their complexity. To understand how extremist groups operate, Lorraine Derocher combined her knowledge of contemporary religion, sociology, psychology, law and social work. Her interdisciplinary approach helped elucidate the reasons for the lack of interventions in the area. She joined forces with 17 partners to develop a response guide as a practical tool to apply the research results and a critical means to transfer knowledge.
